Roberto Carlos cancels Baku visit over illness
Brazilian football star Roberto Carlos’ visit to the Azerbaijani capital Baku, scheduled for Tuesday, did not take place due to his catching a strong cold, according to Azerbaijan’s football governing body AFFA.
The trip was cancelled after doctors advised the Russian club Anzhi Makhachkala’s player-coach to stay home, the Association of Football Federations of Azerbaijan said.
“Very unfortunately, I couldn’t go to Azerbaijan,” Carlos said. “I have heard a lot about the beauty of Baku and the whole Azerbaijan. And I am sorry for having to cancel my visit. I promise, as soon as I get a chance, I will come to Azerbaijan and personally congratulate everyone on the 100th anniversary of your football. As far as I know, I have plenty of fans there.”
It was reported earlier that the goal of Carlos’ visit was to contribute to the promotion of Azerbaijan as the host of the U-17 women’s world football championship in 2012 and facilitate organization of the tournament.
