Azeri soccer club’s Romanian coach dismissed
BAKU – Romanian Mircha Rednik has been dismissed from the post of head coach of Azerbaijan’s Khazar-Lankaran soccer club.
Rednik, 49, was dismissed after the team’s European League second-leg qualifying match against Maccabi Tel Aviv. Khazar-Lankaran lost 1:3 in the away match and tied 0:0 in the game played in its home town of Lankaran, in southern Azerbaijan, on Thursday.
Khazar Lankaran also took tough decisions by excluding legionnaires and a number of local players from the squad.
Rednik headed to Istanbul on Thursday night and further to his home country.
Under Rednik’s leadership, Khazar Lankaran won second place in the Azerbaijani championship and became winner of the national cup this year.
