Kazakhstan, U.S. to create commission on strategic partnership

Kazakhstan and the U.S. will create a commission on strategic partnership, the Kazakh Foreign Ministry reported on Wednesday.

The agreement on such commission establishment was achieved within the meeting between Kazakh Foreign Minister Yerzhan Kazykhanov and U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

"The two parties agreed to raise the bilateral political consultations to the level of the Kazakh-American Commission on Strategic Partnership," the ministry said.

Moreover, Kazykhanov and Clinton discussed the issues on bilateral cooperation in political, economic, cultural and humanitarian fields, energy and food security and diversification of Kazakh economy through the development of scientific and technical cooperation.

According to the Ministry, the U.S. is going to continue to be among the largest investors and trade partners of Kazakhstan.

During the negotiations the parties reaffirmed the commitment to democracy, cooperation in energy, trade, security, nuclear non-proliferation and strengthening of strategic dialogue on Afghanistan.
