Socar’s investment in Ukraine top $85m

Azerbaijani state oil firm Socar has invested more than $85 million in Ukraine's economy since 2009, Ukrainian Deputy Foreign Minister Pavel Klimkin said.

Speaking on the sidelines of a roundtable on the 20th anniversary of Azerbaijani-Ukrainian diplomatic relations, Klimkin said a number of Socar gas stations have already been opened across Ukraine, and it is planned to further increase their number to 70.

Klimkin went on to say that in January-November 2011, bilateral trade totaled more than $1.3 billion. “We believe that it will exceed $1.4 billion in 2012," Klimkin said.

He also said Ukraine intends to enter Azerbaijan's construction market. Leading Ukrainian companies are negotiating their participation in major projects implemented by the Azerbaijani government.

“In particular, we are talking about participation in such projects as the construction of new stations of the Baku subway, upgrading collector systems of the city, construction of new sports and other infrastructure facilities.”
