Texas legislature passes resolution on Khojaly massacre
The House of Representatives in the US state of Texas has passed a draft resolution over the 20th anniversary of the Khojaly massacre of Azerbaijanis committed by Armenian armed forces during the 1990s war.
The resolution, drafted by Texas legislature’s representative Mark Shelton, says that February 26, 2012 is a Memorial Day for Azerbaijanis around the world. "The massacre was covered by major US news outlets and was described by Human Rights Watch organization", it says.
Azerbaijani Diaspora organizations in the U.S., such as USAN, have welcomed the resolution, stressing that the document is the second resolution on the Khojaly massacre adopted by the Texas legislature.
The first resolution in Texas was passed last year, on March 3, 2011, during a regular session of the Texas House of Representatives, and signed by the House speaker.
During the attack on Khojaly, a town located in Azerbaijan’s occupied Nagorno Karabakh region, 613 people were brutally killed, 1,275 captured, and hundreds of others were disabled and went missing.
