U.S. says ties with Azerbaijan unaffected by delayed envoy appointment
US Charge D’Affaires Adam Sterling has said cooperation between the United States and Azerbaijan will not be affected by the lack of a US ambassador, saying efforts were being made to expand ties.
“We are also expecting an ambassadorial appointment and hope that this appointment is coming up soon,” he said.
Former US Ambassador Matthew Bryza, President Barack Obama's nominee, had to wrap up his one-year diplomatic mission after the US Senate did not approve him for the post, and left Azerbaijan early this month.
Charge D’Affaires Sterling will represent the U.S. in Azerbaijan until a new envoy is appointed.
