Azerbaijan ranks second in CIS on social security: officials
BAKU – Azerbaijan ranks second in the Commonwealth of Independent States for the amount of minimum pension that stands at $106, the social security body has said.
The South Caucasus republic is behind only Kazakhstan, where the figure is $124.2, Salim Muslimov, chairman of the State Social Protection Fund, told reporters Wednesday.
Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev enacted a decree Tuesday raising minimum pensions in the country by 13.3%, from 75 manats to 85 manats ($106) from September 1.
According to Muslimov, the minimum pension is $21.6 in Armenia, $82.1 in Belarus, $17.1 in Kyrgyzstan, $48.5 in Moldova, and $90.2 in Russia. The figure makes up $18.3 in Tajikistan, $55.3 in Uzbakistan, and $89.8 in Ukraine.
As for non-CIS former Soviet republics, the pension is $91.7 in Latvia for people with 20-year-long work experience, $135.7 in Lithuania, and $167 in Estonia.
Muslimov said that as of July 1, there are 1,291,000 retired people in Azerbaijan, with the figure expected to reach 1,308,000 by the end of 2010.
