Popular Azeri opera singer dead at 83
Popular Azerbaijani opera singer Firangiz Ahmadova died at age 83 on Friday.
People will bid farewell to Ahmadova at the State Opera and Ballet Theater on Saturday. She will be buried at the Alley of Honors.
The Baku-born Ahmadova, who was named People’s Artist of USSR, graduated from the State Conservatory of Azerbaijan in 1955. Ahmadova was the soloist of the Azerbaijan Radio Choir in 1946-1951 as well as the State Opera and Ballet Theater in 1951-1988.
The famous singer played roles in the operas of Azerbaijani, Russian and European composers.
Ahmadova, who was conferred the Order of Glory, taught at the State Opera and Ballet Theater from 1989.
