Armenia’s provocation vs. Azerbaijan’s humanity

Armenia’s provocation vs. Azerbaijan’s humanity

Armenia has one again replied to Azerbaijan’s humanity with provocation on the contact line of Armenian-Azerbaijani armed forces.

For more than two decades Armenia and Azerbaijan are in a state of war following Yerevan’s aggression, ethnic cleansing policy and illegal territorial claims against Azerbaijan. Armenia occupied over 20 percent of Azerbaijan's internationally recognized territory, including Nagorno-Karabakh and seven adjacent regions in a brutal war in the early 1990s.

Ignoring the long-lasting efforts of international organizations and Azerbaijan’s repeated calls for peaceful solution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, Armenia still holds the Azerbaijani lands under the occupation.

However, despite the implacable enmity between the two sides, Azerbaijan always abided by its obligations under the international rules and demonstrated humanism and tolerance in relation to the Armenian people.

On the contrary, Armenia’s military junta continue to show its true face and ‘care’ to its people by again resorting to provocation on the frontline while Azerbaijan was handing over Armenian citizen.

The Armenian side every time violates the agreement reached beforehand on the delivery of its citizen neglecting the danger posed by such actions for peoples’ lives.

This time, during the handover process of Armenian soldier Andranik Grigoryan carried out by Azerbaijan’s State Committee on Prisoners of War, Hostages and Missing People and the Defense Ministry through the mediation of the International Committee of the Red Cross, the Armenian side was seen filming the handover process despite the agreement reached beforehand.

The Armenian side this time behaved ‘more polite’ with just attempting to violate the reached agreement. However, earlier, during repatriation of a 73-year-old Armenian civilian, Lusine Qukasovna Abovyan, shots were heard from nearby Armenian positions.

These facts show how the Armenian government is taking ‘care’ of its citizens with putting their life in danger.

Grigoryan, who voluntarily surrendered to the Azerbaijani side in March, was the second Armenian citizen that Azerbaijan returned to Armenia in a week.

With handing over the Armenian citizens Azerbaijan once again confirmed its adhering to the rules and norms of the international law.

The Azerbaijani side has always created conditions for the ICRC members to regularly visit the Armenian citizens, evaluate the conditions they lived in, and help them to keep in contact with their family members.

In the contrary, the Armenian side violating the international rules and norms is subjecting the Azerbaijanis under the Armenian captivity to various tortures.

In particular, there are should be noted the case of two Azerbaijani hostages - Dilgam Asgarov and Shahbaz Guliyev, who have been subjected to tortures and inhuman treatment.

Dilgam Asgarov and Shahbaz Guliyev were captured by Armenian special forces in Shaplar village in July 2014 while they were visiting the graves of their relatives. In the same incident, special forces killed Azerbaijani citizen Hasan Hasanov.

Following an expedited “judicial process" last December, Asgarov was sentenced to life imprisonment and Guliyev to 22 years in jail.

In July, a video confirming that Asgarov had been tortured was circulated on social media, showing Asgarov walking with a limp. The Azerbaijani officials have appealed to the international organizations over the torture suffered by Guliyev and Asgarov in prison.

Unfortunately, Guliyev and Asgarov are not the only victims of the Armenian cruelty. They share the fate of over four thousand people, who are still missing.

Armenia with all efforts ignores the calls on providing information about the other Azerbaijani citizens in Armenian captivity and missing people during the bloody Karabakh war.

Azerbaijan’s State Commission on Prisoners of War, Hostages and Missing People has registered 4,013 Azerbaijani citizens as missing persons. These are people who are being searched for today have gone missing in the occupied Nagorno-Karabakh and adjacent regions of Azerbaijan

Armenia avoids giving information about the missing persons, mass graves and the people who can give testimony in connection with captives and hostages taken during the conflict.

With such actions, Yerevan also ruins the life of the people who are still waiting for information about their relatives, family members and beloved ones.

Armenia’s crimes are not limited to this, as it also destroys Azerbaijan’s historical and cultural wealth in the occupied territories wiping and ruining the monuments in these lands.

On the contrary, Azerbaijan still preserves the monuments in its territory ones belonged to Armenians and the renovated Armenian Church in the center of Baku can be a good example for this.

All these clearly demonstrate Azerbaijan’s respect to the history, culture and moral values of other nation though it has committed unprecedented atrocities against it.

It’s very regrettable that Azerbaijan’s such actions continue to be ignored by the international community and continuation its territories’ occupation is yet another proof of it.
