Mugham and Mediterranean music to merge in Baku

This weekend, splendid sounds of two different musical cultures will be woven into one in Baku.

The International Mugham Center will host exciting concert entitled “Meeting of Mugham and Mediterranean music” with participation of Azerbaijani and Italian musicians.

The concert scheduled for 19:00 on November 29, will feature the folk music of the two nations.

Organized by the International Mugham Center, the event will be supported by the Italian embassy in Azerbaijan and Azerbaijan-Italy association

The concert program will bring together prominent artist such as Fikret Verdiyev (tar), Rafael Aliyev (kamancha), Khanlar Jafarov (garmon), Elshan Gasimov (nagara), as well as trio of Nando Citarella, Mauro Palmas and Gabriella Aiello.

Mugham, a unique musical and poetic phenomenon, was created based on historical and cultural traditions that have existed for centuries in Azerbaijan.

Recognized as a masterpiece of the UNESCO’s Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity the Azerbaijani Mugham is one of the most valuable monuments of the material and spiritual culture of the nation and the greatest achievement of the musical and poetic art of the Azerbaijani people.

Mugham entered into global cultural heritage at the beginning of the last century by attracting the attention of cultural experts and music critics around the globe.

The lyrical music of Mugham attracts the young and old with its delightful sounds. At present, this pearl of Azerbaijani music art continues to take new forms, attracting attention worldwide.
