"Swan Lake" to be staged in Baku

The Azerbaijani State Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre in Baku will host the fifth edition of the "Swan Lake" play by Pyotr Tchaikovsky in December.

The performance will be attended by the Prime of Belarusian Bolshoi Theatre, People's Artist, the winner of gold medals and first prizes in four international ballet competitions Olga Gayko and the winner of the Grand Prize of the Special Fund of the Belarusian, laureate of international ballet competitions Igor Onoshko.

Olga Gayko and Igor Onoshko are among the most popular ballet dancers in Europe. They have performed in London, Paris, Amsterdam, Munich, Zurich, Tokyo, Berlin and many other cities of the world with the great success.

In 2010, after the performance at the International Festival of Ballet Art in Tokyo the dancers were awarded a special prize for the best performance of the leading parties in the performance of the "Swan Lake".

The "Swan Lake" is a romantic ballet in four acts. The story of the ballet is based on a German fairy tale. It is about a prince named Siegfried. He falls in love with the Swan princess, Odette. She is a swan by day, but a young woman at night. She is under a magic spell that can only be broken by a man who will make a promise to love her for all time. Siegfried makes the promise. He is tricked though by the magician who cast the spell. The ballet ends with the deaths of Siegfried and Odette.
