An event dedicated to World Vegetarian Day was held in Baku.

Turnout was great as the venue began to fill with guests before the start of the ceremony, where they were treated with vegetarian delicacies, including white coconut balls.

Event guests enjoyed various entertainments including performances by the “Grifon” group, and dances by “Aysel studio.” Pianist Fuad Adib, “Children's Eurovision” contestant Suada Alekperova, as well as young singers Nazrin Shrifzada and Rinat Alimov impressed guests with captivating performances.

The president of FMS Models modeling agency, Lubov Gutorova, was also among the guests.

World Vegetarian Day is observed annually on October 1. It is a day of celebration, established by the North American Vegetarian Society in 1977 and endorsed by the International Vegetarian Union in 1978, "To promote the joy, compassion, and life-enhancing possibilities of vegetarianism."

A vegetarian, by definition, eats no meat. That includes fish and other forms of seafood.

World Vegetarian Day brings awareness to the ethical, environmental, health and humanitarian benefits of a vegetarian lifestyle.

It encourages people to eat more vegetables and fruits. Society members claim that countless studies have proven that a diet filled with fruits and vegetables is good for our health.

Vegetarians have taken this path either for health, or from a conviction that they should not eat, and therefore, kill animals.

American news website Science Daily notes that a vegetarian diet is associated with low blood pressure and cholesterol, better heart health, and even lower rates of cancer.
