Valuable treasure found in Guba

A small treasure was discovered in Azerbaijan’s northern region of Guba.

It was found in the wall of an abandoned house by children who were playing inside.

The findings include a lot of silver coins, necklaces, paper money dated to 1875, a rosary, an old Koran, a silver sword and old pistol.

The findings were handed over to Guba Police and an investigation is underway.

Experts say that since ancient times, Azerbaijan has been located at the crossroads of trade, land, and sea routes, as well as at crossroads of the most diverse cultures and traditions. Azerbaijan is a place where great Khanates and the Empires were established at various times.

According to experts, Azerbaijan has about a few hundred big treasures dispersed throughout the country. They are located in basements, walls, under the foundation, and in open fields in both ancient and more recent cities.

In 2013, a huge treasure trove dated to the 6th-7th centuries was found in Tovuz region’s Galaboynu area.

For the past 15 days, the area was the under police control and excavations were being conducted.

According to residents, the treasury belonged to a governor of the Garagoyunlu clan, Kara Yusif, who was killed and buried in this area.

Earlier in 2012, archeologists found a treasury of some 37 gold coins of 986 fineness dated between 1781 and 1800 in the Agsu region.
