Korean Film Festival underway in Ganja

The solemn opening of the Korean Film Festival was held in the Azerbaijani region of Ganja on July 6.

The opening ceremony brought together many representatives of various organizations and agencies, as well as film lovers.

Choi Suk-Ying, the ambassador of South Korea to Azerbaijan, Sevda Gurbanaliyeva, the deputy head of the Ganja Executive Power and Irada Najafova, the department head of the SEBA Association also attended the event, who underlined the significance of the festival.

At the opening ceremony the film entitled "Forever The Moment", directed by Yim Soon-rye was screened.

Residents of Ganja will have an opportunity to watch some 10 Korean films during the seven days.

The films will also be demonstrated in four other Azerbaijani regions including Lankaran (July 13-19), Sumgayit (July 20-29), Agdash (31 July -6 August) and Gabala (August 7-15).

The event, which will last until August 15 features the Korean films produced in 2008-2013. These films were dubbed into Azerbaijani language with the support of SEBA.

“Mother” film directed by Choi Ik Hwan in 2011 will be the last one screened at the festival.

The festival is opened to the public and entrance is free.

The event is jointly organized by Azerbaijan Culture Foundation SEBA (Seoul-Baku), Azerbaijan-Korean Cultural Exchange Association, and Korea Fund and supported by Korean Embassy in Azerbaijan.

The First Korean Film Festival was held in Baku in 2005.

Azerbaijan and Korea have very close relations in many fields, including culture.

SEBA (Seoul-Baku) Azerbaijan-Korean Cultural Exchange Association Public Union, which aimed to realize large-scale cultural exchange processes between Azerbaijan and Korea was established in 2004. So far, the organization implemented several projects in the field of science, health and culture.
