The Azerbaijani State Philharmonic named after Muslim Magomayev hosted the Day of Poland on June 13 as part of the celebrations for the first European Games in Baku.
The event, which was jointly organized by the Polish Embassy in
Azerbaijan and Polish National Olympic Committee, brought together
prominent public figures, diplomats, Azerbaijani artists, as well
as representatives of the Polish sports delegation to the
Games.
Prior to its commencement, guests were presented with an exhibition
of Polish architects in Baku as well as images of various monuments
in Poland. The exhibition also promoted tourism in Poland.
Addressing the event, Henryk Urbas, the head of the Polish mission to the European Games thanked all event organizers, as well as Polish athlete Maja Wloszczowska, who won a bronze medal on the mountain bike.
“We congratulate Azerbaijani people with the opening of the 1st European Games. We are so glad to take part in it. We are very pleased with the organization of the Games, and happy that Maja brought a bronze medal to the country,” he said, adding that Poland is waiting for more victories.
Following the speech, the event saw a musical performance by the Azerbaijan State Symphonic Orchestra named after Uzeir Hajibeyli and conducted by Marcin Nalecz Niesiolowski. The program soloist was pianist Kzhistov Yablonsky, one of the world’s most talented musicians, who has held concerts in Europe, U.S., Mexico, Israel, Japan and etc.
The audience was mesmerized by pieces from Frederic Chopin,
Polish composer Wojciech Kilar, as well as a waltz from the "Seven
Beauties" ballet by the great Azerbaijani composer Gara
Garayev.
After a beautiful musical program, guests had a chance to taste
delicious Polish cuisine.
The event ended with fashion show by Polish designer Natasha Pavluchenko, which featured some 15 evening dresses.
The European Games, currently underway in Baku, has gathered more than 6,000 athletes across Europe to compete in some 20 sporting events. Twelve sports will qualify for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.
