Music Festival kicks off in Baku

The opening ceremony of the sixth International Music Festival devoted to Azerbaijan's father of composed classical music and opera Uzeir Hajibeyli was held on September 18.

The event took place in one of the beautiful halls of Baku, Azerbaijani State Philharmonic named after Muslim Magomayev.

During the past six years, this spectacular festival has been held in Baku on the Day of the National Music. The great honor of Azerbaijan, Uzeir Hajibeyli was born on this day.

Since 2009 the festival has brought together many music lovers from west and east, as it once did Uzeir Hajibeyli mixing cultural styles of these two worlds in his works.

During the opening ceremony, all the guests enjoyed the amazing performances of Azerbaijan State Symphony Orchestra named after Uzeir Hajibeyli, conducted by People's Artist, conductor Rauf Abdullayev, soloists - Jeyhun Allahverdiyev and Ilya Grubert, as well as the overture to "Koroglu" opera by Uzeir Hajibeyli, "Concert for Piano and Orchestra" by Arif Melikov and "Concert for Violin and Orchestra" by Johannes Brahms.

The first piece belonged to the State Symphony Orchestra musicians named after Uzeir Hajibeyli conducted by People's Artist Rauf Abdullayev. The orchestra played the famous overture from one of the best works of Hajibeyli - "Koroglu" opera.

The famous Peope's Artist Arif Melikov expressed his impression, concerning the opening ceremony to the journalists. "I congratulate all organizers of the opening of the sixth International Music Festival. The well-known works of outstanding Hajibeyli will be featured during the festival. I am very happy that a premier of my concert also will be held on this day. I didn't sleep for exactly one month to complete this work. I have dedicated it to my daughter, Shirin Melikova."

The festival which is aimed at promoting intercultural dialog among peoples will host some 55 outstanding musicians and groups from Azerbaijan, Russia, Belarus, Belgium, Lithuania, Latvia, Holland and Australia such as Belarus State Chamber Orchestra, the quintet of wind instruments "Arirang", "Young virtuosos of Australia" ensemble, Xenia Knorre, Andris Vechumnikes, Kasparas Uinskas and others.

Till September 28, the festival will move on from one place to another: The International Mugham Center, Hall of the State Chamber and organ music, State Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre, Baku Music Academy named after Uzeir Hajibeyli, the Composers' Union, the National Museum of Musical Culture, "Karabakh" Mugham Centre of Azerbaijani Agjabedi region.

During the festival, guests will be delighted with performances of talented Azerbaijani musicians such as Gulbaji Imanova, Agaverdi Pashayev, Nazakat Teymurova, Mansum Ibrahimov, Ramil Gasimov and others.

Holding some master classes in Baku Music Institutions is also expected during the festival days.

The premier of "The Marriage of Figaro" by Mozart opera, anniversary concert dedicated to the 90th anniversary of Suleyman Aleskerov, scientific-practical conference "Turkic Peoples Music in the context of shared values", as well as presentation of the Mugam Encyclopedia in Russian will also be put on display for music lovers in Azerbaijan State Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre.
