OIC committee selects project for Islamic culture propaganda

The Azerbaijani Culture Ministry's "Cities of the Common Cultural Population" has won contest announced by the Committee for Commerce and Economic Cooperation (COMCEC) of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).

The project selected among more than 30 applications aims to attract tourists from Japan and Europe, as well as from the Islamic countries to the four member states of COMCEC --Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Turkey.

It will serve to international propaganda of touristic potential and Islamic cultural-historical heritage of the member states.

The mandate of the COMCEC is to draw up programs for joint action, coordinate and follow-up the activities pertaining to economic cooperation within the framework of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC).

The project envisages study of the potential of the cultural tourism, particularly archeological tourism, as well as to define the regions with similar signs of the cultural heritage in COMCEC member-states. Common touristic product uniting these countries will further be created based on the results of that study.

The COMCEC will fund the implementation of the project through the support of the Development Bank of Turkey.
