The Palace of Culture of Afula in Israel opened its doors to the guests who came together for the opening of "Azerbaijan-the territory of tolerance" photo exhibition on August 12.

The event held in the framework of International association Israel-Azerbaijan "AZIS" project was organized by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and National Center of tolerance of Azerbaijan.

The exhibition has been held across the county over more than half a year.

Residents of Kiryat-Gat, Nesher, Tirat-Carmel, Acre and Loda have already got acquainted with the exhibition. The ceremony in Afula was held in a special atmosphere.

Director of Azerbaijan Center of Culture of "AZIS", Yegana Salman greeted all the guests, including important figures: Mayor of Afula Itskhak Miron and Deputy Mayor Mikhail Barkan (who held the post of Consul of Israel to Azerbaijan for 5 years).

Mayor of Aful surprised the participants by welcoming the guests in Russian. Since the city is home to a large community of immigrants from the former USSR, he decided to learn Russian.

"I have visited Azerbaijan several times. I have visited Ganja, Oguz, Guba and of course Baku. I must express my main impressions after these trips. Azerbaijan is a very strong country with strong and hospitable people. Our countries are very similar, that is why we should be friend," he said.

Addressing the event, Deputy Mayor Mikhail Barkan expressed similar words about Azerbaijan, where he was in office for 5 years.

Then the guests were invited to eat cakes from sweet sponsor "Natali". They also listened to an interesting lecture about the history of Jewish community in Azerbaijan and watched "Azerbaijan through the eyes of Israeli journalists" TV story.

An interesting moment of the event was the performance of a great string quartet by Leonid Barshtak that performed the compositions of such spectacular Azerbaijan's composers as Uzeir Hajibeyov, Gara Garayev and Tofig Guliyev.

The visitors of the photo exhibition finally got some booklets containing all the details in the photos: mosques, churches and synagogues, territories of the republic. They also received the CD of "Days of Azerbaijan in Israel" film and an edition of a colorful magazine called "Baku".
