Traditional Music Festival kicks off in Gabala

Azerbaijan's northern city of Gabala hosted the grandiose opening of International Music Festival on July 23.

The sixth Gabala festival supported by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation is an outstanding musical event.

At the beginning of the opening ceremony, a congratulatory message from Mehriban Aliyeva, President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and Goodwill Ambassador of UNESCO and ISESCO, was read out to the guests.

The message greeted the participants of the sixth Gabala International Music Festival.

"For centuries, Azerbaijan has been a multinational and multireligious society. Retaining the unique pearl of our culture, customs, traditions and heritage, we have managed to turn our country into a sample of the world culture. International cultural relations and mutual cultural integration are among the main priorities of Azerbaijan's intergovernmental policies. Projects that improve the cultural and spiritual integration between nations are very valuable for us," the message read.

"Gabala International Music Festival with its considerable prestige gained year by year brings together talented musicians from around the world each year. It is a music festival which has become a tradition in the history of our national culture. It is also recognized as an important event that brings large contributors to intercultural dialogue. We estimate that the festival as a great contribution to the enrichment of the musical cultures of different nations would strengthen further friendly relations between nations," the message said.

Then one of the artistic directors of the festival and rector of Baku Music Academy, Farhad Badalbayli and Chairman of the Board of Aksakals of Azerbaijan, Fattah Heydarov, welcomed the guests, talented artists and musicians who came to Azerbaijan from around the world to participate in this grand musical festival, and wished success to the festival.

It was noted that this year's festival, serving to popularize Azerbaijani culture, would simultaneously promote musical traditions of the country around the world.

Annually during the festival, the stage in Gabala hosts great works of local and world famous composers. This stage invites both young and famous performers, who perform classic and chamber music, as well as Azerbaijani folk music Mugham.

The festival started with a concert by the Uzeyir Hajibeyli Azerbaijan State Symphony Orchestra.

The concert included works of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Gara Garayev, famous Azerbaijani and European composers.

Azerbaijan has always been famous for its musical culture. The traditional festival promotes this glory around the globe. This time, the guests will be able to enjoy music from Russia, Turkey, South Africa, the U.S., Canada, France, Austria, Israel, Ukraine and Korea until August 1.

The grandiose music festival is held with organizational support of the Culture and Tourism Ministry.

The festival is traditionally held in the Chamber Music Hall of the city every day at 6 p.m. and in the open air at 9 p.m. from July 23 to August 1, except for July 25, when the hall will await the public at 12 p.m., and the open stage concert will be held at 6 p.m. and 9 p.m.
