Exhibition of Turkish painter opened in Baku

An exhibition by Turkish painter Serhan Cifticiguzeli "Turkish illumination and miniature" was opened on May 16 at the Yunus Emre Cultural Center in Azerbaijan`s capital.

Addressing the opening ceremony, director of the Yunus Emre Turkish Cultural Center Seriyye Gundogdu highlighted the facility`s activity.

"Yunus Emre Turkish Cultural Center has opened 35 representative offices in 30 countries of the world. Our main aim is to popularize the Turkish culture and to develop the cultural relations between Azerbaijan and Turkey. The exhibition is the first event, which the Yunus Emre Cultural Center organized here."

Serhan Cifticiguzeli noted that this was his first exhibition in Baku, which displays 16 art pieces.

"Ottoman Miniature or Turkish miniature was an art form in the Ottoman Empire. It was a part of the Ottoman Book Arts together with illumination (tezhip), calligraphy (hat), marbling paper (ebru) and bookbinding (cilt). The words taswir or nakish were used to define this art in Ottoman language."

Turkish ambassador to Azerbaijan Ismayil Alper Coskun also made a speech.
