A memorial plaque and symbolic monument reflecting the bloody events of 1918 are planned to be constructed in the Guba memorial complex of genocide.

This was stated by the vice-president of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan (ANAS), a member of the commission to investigate the situation at the Guba memorial complex of genocide, academician Isa Habibbayli.

Relevant organizations are carrying out work to prepare the memorial plaque and symbolic monument, he noted.

Habibbayli added that there will be an official ceremony of installation of the monument and memorial plaque on the day of the genocide of Azerbaijanis.

The vice-president of ANAS noted that certain reconstruction works were carried out in the complex.

Guba memorial complex of genocide was built in memory of tens of thousands of Azerbaijanis who were victims of mass killings that were organized on the Azerbaijani land in 1918 by Bolshevik-Armenian armed groups.

In 2007, during the construction work, a mass grave was accidentally discovered in Guba, near which a memorial complex and a museum with a rich exposition based on historical documents and facts were created.

The genocide of 1918 against the civilian population was conducted almost on the entire territory of Azerbaijan. More than 50,000 of Azerbaijani citizens became victims of genocide in a matter of five months.

Azerbaijanis were exposed to genocide in Baku, the Guba province, Shamakhi, Gusar, Irevan, Nakhchivan, Zangezur, Karabakh, Lankaran and many other Azerbaijani lands.
