A literary evening devoted to creativity of the singer, poet and actor Mammadali Sahil was held at the Baku-based International Mugham Center.

The event was organized by the International Mugham Center, "Mədəniyyət "(Culture) TV channel and radio "Azerbaijan", Trend Life reported.

Ramiz Guliev, the secretary of Azerbaijan Union of Writers, poet and writer Ilgar Fahmi, artist Agul Melikov, and Ilgar Sahil addressed the event and told about the life and creativity of Mammadali Sahil.

Well-known mugham singers including, Sabuhi Ibayev, Ryavan Gurbanova, Mammad Najafov, Nuria Huseynova, Huseyn Melikov and Simara Imanova, who were accompanied by the instrumental ensemble "Buta" conducted by Rovshan Gurbanov, performed gazelles of Mammadali Sahil at the event.

Ghazal is a poetic form consisting of rhyming couplets and a refrain, with each line sharing the same meter. Ghazal may be understood as a poetic expression of both the pain of loss or separation and the beauty of love in spite of that pain.

Mammadali Sahil is the author of about 300 poems, gazelles and other works.

Mammadali Sahil is known as the first performer of “The song of the blind Arab” ("Kor ərəbin mahnısı") to the music of Firket Amirov and the words of Huseyn Javid.

He performed in Ahmad Bakikhanov’s ensemble in 1940-1941. He went to the front in 1942, in 1945 was demobilized. After recovering from a serious wound he began to work for the National Drama Theater, where during 22 years he created many bright images in such performances as Khosrow and Shirin, Ghatyr Mammad, Vagif, Indian Beauty, Sheikh Sanan and others.
