A photo exhibition dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the Battle of Stalingrad has opened in Baku.

The exhibition, organized by Russian Information Cultural Center, features rare photos of Stalingrad the defenders, Trend Life reported.

The authors risked their lives, creating the documentary history of those days for future generations.

Speaking at the event, the head of Rossotrudnichestvo representative office in Azerbaijan, Valentin Denisov, noted the merit of all Soviet people in the battle of Stalingrad. He also highlighted the contribution to the victory of the peoples of Russia and Azerbaijan.

The battle of Stalingrad, that lasted from July 17, 1942 to February 2, 1943, was the bloodiest battle of World War II in which Nazi Germany and its allies fought the Soviet Union for control of the city of Stalingrad.

Adolf Hitler, the leader of the Nazi Party, planned to cut off oil supply from Baku that provided 80 percent of the Soviet army.

In general, Baku produced more than 130 types of weapons and spare parts, including Katyusha rocket, a Shpagin machine gun, and YAK-3 a fighter.

Many Azerbaijani soldiers took part in fierce battle.

The twice Hero of the Soviet Union, Hazi Aslanov, the battery commander of the 51st infantry division Gamza Sadigov and many others showed their bravery.
