Nakhchivan, which was declared the Islamic Culture Capital 2018, has defined a logo of the event.

A ceremony to define the logo was held at the Supreme Assembly of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic on March 1, Azertac reported.

Chairman of the Supreme Assembly Vasif Talibov, addressing the event, said Nakhchivan was named the Islamic Culture Capital 2018 at a meeting of culture ministers of the member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation which took place in Baku in 2009.

Noting that over 70 entries were received by the jury of the competition to choose the logo, Talibov announced the winner of the competition.

“The winner is Tapdig Hamzayev, a member of the Artists` Union of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic. His logo reflects both Nakhchivan`s Turkish and Islamic cultural legacy, as well as the city`s traditions and modern history,” he said.

The Iranian city of Mashhad has been selected as the cultural capital of the Islamic world in 2017.

Baku was declared the Islamic Culture Capital in 2009, and the city hosted a number of successful events during this period.

Nakhchivan, the central city of Azerbaijan's Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, is famous for its amazing scenery, beautiful sunsets and striking heights.

The region is closely linked with ancient Eastern civilizations like the other regions of Azerbaijan, and has left a deep trace on the course of historical development.

Archeological research conducted in the territory has revealed samples of material culture dating back to the 2nd and 1st millennia B.C.E.

The region abounds with historical monuments, including ancient Gamigaya, Farhad house, Ajhabi-Kahf, Yusuf ibn Kuseyr tomb, Momina Khatun tomb, Tomb of the Gulistan, Khanagah tomb, Qazanchi bridge, Nakhchivan Juma Mosque, and Qesariyya monument.

It also enjoys clear water rivers, beautiful blue springs, and so much more. Beautiful color of springs maybe surprised you at some photos that present the natural beauty of Nakhchivan, but those who have seen them live say that the feeling is incomparable.
