Azerbaijan and the United States signed a memorandum on reopening of American stands in the country’s regions.

The agreement was inked on February 23, as Culture and Tourism Minister Abulfaz Garayev received U.S. ambassador to Azerbaijan Robert Cekuta.

The memorandum envisages reopening of American stands in Ganja, Khachmaz, Salyan and Kurdamir regions.

The project will take an important place in the ministry's work plan for 2017, said Garayev, commenting on the memo.

“I hope that the U.S. will also take part in one of the important projects organized by Azerbaijan soon. This is the 4th World Forum on Intercultural Dialogue organized by UNESCO, UN Alliance Civilization, World Tourism Organization, Food and Agriculture Organization, European Union, ISESCO, North-South Centre of the Council of Europe and scheduled for May 4-6. As you see this forum is supported by world’s leading organizations. I hope that the U.S. will also be seriously interested in the project,” the minister said, noting that Azerbaijan has already sent a letter on participation to the U.S. Secretary of State.

In turn, Cekuta noted that MoU will be beneficial for the two countries and will serve both Azerbaijani and U.S. citizens to obtain useful information.

“If to consider that the project includes not only culture, but also tourism field, then we will stimulate development of relations between the U.S. and Azerbaijani tourism agencies. American stands will be installed in libraries and will give a chance for local residents to use internet and educational materials for free,” the ambassador explained.

Cekuta is sure that the project is also an incredible opportunity for Azerbaijani young people to improve their English skills and learn more about the U.S. culture and society.
