YARAT to present “Old Baku is still alive” film

YARAT Contemporary Art Space invites film lovers to the screening of “Old Baku is still alive”, a film directed by Murad Abiyev.

The film's main character Agarahim lives alone indulging in the memories of the past. Whilst drinking his regular tea in an empty apartment or taking endless walks through streets of Icherisheher, he continues to talk to his deceased wife.

Among other things he tells her about a mysterious stranger who visits him every evening. This mysterious visitor pleads him to dispel from the ghosts of the past and get back to normal life. Will Agarahim listen to the stranger’s rhetoric or will he give up and opt for slow death. He has to choose now.

The film will be shown in Azerbaijani language on February 21.

The screening starts at 19:00. Admission is free.

YARAT is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to nurturing an understanding of contemporary art in Azerbaijan and to creating a platform for Azerbaijani art, both nationally and internationally. Based in Baku, YARAT (meaning CREATE in Azerbaijani) was founded by Aida Mahmudova in 2011.

YARAT realizes its mission through an on-going program of exhibitions, education events and festivals. YARAT facilitates exchange between local and international artistic networks including foundations, galleries and museums.
