Baku to host 3rd meeting of culture, tourism ministers

The 3rd meeting of culture and tourism ministers of the world will be held as part of the 4th World Forum on Intercultural Dialogue to be held in Baku on May 5-6, 2017, Trend reported.

The relevant decision was made during an expert meeting and the meeting of the International Working Group of the World Forum on Intercultural Dialogue at UNESCO headquarters.

The official representatives of UNESCO, Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Azerbaijan, Permanent Delegation of Azerbaijan to UNESCO, United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC), World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), Council of Europe, Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO), North-South Centre of the Council of Europe as well as Azerbaijan’s Minister of Culture and Tourism Abulfas Garayev took part in the event.

The World Forums on Intercultural Dialogue became an international platform to enable and encourage people, countries and organizations around the globe to take concrete actions to support diversity, dialogue and mutual understanding among nations by raising awareness on the importance of intercultural dialogue worldwide.

The Forums organized so far have reached remarkable achievements by bringing together head of governments, ministers, heads of various international organizations, senior policy makers, cultural professionals, goodwill ambassadors, experts, journalists, practitioners, prominent intellectuals and activists.

Azerbaijan hosted the 1st World Forum on Intercultural Dialogue on 7-9 April, 2011. The forum addressed challenges of intercultural dialogue in its various aspects regarding conceptual frameworks, governance, policy and practice. It tackled the barriers to dialogue and faced concretely how dialogue can best be pursued in diverse contexts and provided an opportunity for sharing of good practices and the launch of new initiatives within this intercultural platform.
