Anciennt petroglyphs discovered in Julfa

Prehistoric cave paintings have been discovered in the Khanagah village of the Julfa region in Nakhchivan, Azertac reported.
The preliminary research revealed that that the paintings consist of three separate petroglyphs. Two of them are engraved, while the other one was carved out on the rock.
The department head at the Institute of History, Archeology and Ethnography of Nakhchivan, corresponding member of ANAS Vali Bakhshaliyev said that the rock paintings are related to various periods of time.
Engraving technique has been known since the discovery of Gamigaya rock carvings located in 60 km to the south from Ordubad region.
The drawings symbolize the man and the tree of life.
The expert thinks that two rock carvings are related to the 3rd millennium BC, while the third one is dating back to the first millennium.
Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences is the main state research organization and the primary body that conducts research and coordinates activities in the fields of science and social sciences in Azerbaijan.
The Academy, established on 23 January 1945, closely cooperates with different foreign research institutions and organizes international scientific workshops and conferences in Azerbaijan.
