Azerbaijan-Qatar business meeting

Bilateral cooperation between the State of Qatar and the Republic of Azerbaijan was on agenda of Azerbaijan-Qatar business meeting held on May 10.

The meeting mulled priority areas for the development and strengthening of bilateral cooperation between the two countries.

“Azerbaijan and Qatar are ready to boost their cooperation in different spheres such as trade, production sector, as well as agriculture, information and communication technologies, and tourism,” deputy minister of economy Niyazi Safarov said. “Countries have a well-established basis for the development of sales turnover. Political relationships between the two countries are at the highest level and the further development of this cooperation is of utmost importance. We are keen to develop our relationships,” deputy minister added. Safarov mentioned that mutual visits of the heads of states and groups of delegates gave an impetus for the development of bilateral relationship and cooperation between the countries.

“Nowadays, Azerbaijan is a steadily developing country which pays a great attention to the modernization of economy and holds reforms with the aim of business development such as the decline in the number of required licenses as well as suspension of control over entrepreneurs. Safarov underlined that positive business environment in Azerbaijan creates good opportunities for foreign investments.

Head of administration on investment industry business development of Qatar Sheikh Abdulaziz Ali Al Thani in his turn said that political and economic development between the two countries is on a high level. He also mentioned that success of Azerbaijan in the sphere of economy is highly appreciated by Qatar entrepreneurs and the two countries enjoy a great potential for further strengthening and broadening cooperation between businessmen.

After the establishment of relations between the countries main directions of cooperation have been determined as cooperation in the field of investment, the exchange of experience in the field of oil and gas, and supply of the Azerbaijani agricultural goods to the Qatar market. The energy industry is one of the most promising as the two countries are rich in their energy, oil and gas reserves.

Given the fact that Azerbaijan and Qatar has a simplified visa regime, close relations between the two countries in tourism sphere is also of utmost importance. Currently, Qatar Airways operates direct flights from Baku to Doha.

Diplomatic relations between the two countries was established in 1994. In compliance with the agreement reached between Azerbaijan and Qatar in 2007 embassies of two countries has been established.
