The Kur plant, a producer of computer equipment in Mingachevir, is upgrading its power supply to start the production of brand-name computer equipment, a source in the IT field told Trend.

Renovation work is underway and new equipment is being installed in order to begin the serial production of portable and desktop computers, the source said.

The equipment will be produced under the Acer brand. The Taiwanese company Acer has previously explored the capacity of the plant for the production of laptop and tablet computers.

The project was realized after the plant received the status of High-Tech Park earlier this year.

The initial investment in the project will amount to about 10 million manat (over $9.5 million). The main goals are to attract foreign capital into the project and to create opportunities to export the finished products to foreign markets.

The Kur plant is a joint venture of the production association Teleradio of the Communications and High Technologies Ministry and the IT-company Sinam.

The plant, established ten years ago, is the only industrial enterprise engaged in the assembly-line production of computer equipment and electronics in the South Caucasus.

The Mingachevir Park, based on the plant, was set up in view of securing sustainable development and economic competitiveness. The facility will stretch across 1.3 hectares. An initial investment of 2 million manats was allocated to the project.

The Mingachevir High Tech Park will cooperate with Baku High Tech Park, which is under construction, on a 50-hectare plot of land area in the Pirallahi district of the capital.

Moreover, in late 2014, the Intel Company expressed its readiness to work in Azerbaijan.

The collaboration will be advantageous in that it will increase the skills of engineers and programmers in the country.

In addition, Azerbaijan has been integrating companies that have strong experiences in both the domestic market and abroad. Through a successful use of their experiences, the country can reach international markets.
