The price for the railway route between Baku and Sumgayit has been defined at 0.8 manat ($0.76) from September 15.

According to the decision of the Tariff Council made on September 14, the fare in the way stations will be 0.2-0.7 manat ($0.19-$0.66) taking into account tariffs for alternative urban and suburban transport.

The schedule for trains was also presented. Trains will depart from the station in Baku at 05:10, 05:30, 6:50, 16:00, 17:25, 18:25 and 19:25. From the station in Sumgait trains will depart at 06:40, 07:10, 07:55, 17:10, 18:30, 19:30 and 20:30.

Post-terminals and turnstiles were established at the stations in Baku, Bilajari and Sumgayit. Tickets can be purchased at automatic kiosks and ticket offices.

Passengers will be able to pay for a trip with single travel card called BakiKart, used in the subway and BakuBus.

Along the route are located passenger stations: Baku, Kishly, Bilajari, Khirdalan, Gyuzdek, Sumgayit, 10th and 6th checkpoints and dividing points.

Starting from September 15, eight trains will run the route, three of which are Stadler trains, while the remaining five are thoroughly renovated old trains produced in Riga.

At present, Azerbaijan has three double-decker trains with two more trains to arrive by the end of the year. The trains have 396 seats, including 84 business class seats, and have a total capacity of 919 passengers. Passengers can enjoy WiFi during their ride.

In the first stage, the route will benefit about 20,000-30,000 people. Later, however, it is expected that the number of passengers will exceed 100,000 people.

As of now, the electric trains that run between Azerbaijan’s two biggest cities Baku and Sumgayit on the Baku-Balajari-Sumgayit route arrive at their destination in one hour 22 minutes. After the renovation, the time is reduced to 40 minutes.
