Azerbaijanis will be able to enjoy the opportunity of cheap flights as the low cost airlines arrive to the country.

Turkey’s budget carrier Pegasus Airlines has received permission from Azerbaijan Airlines to perform flights to Azerbaijan, AZAL reported on August 27.

Pegasus will perform round-trip flights from Istanbul to Gabala city of the country.

AZAL further reported that the Turkish side will decide on the start day for the flights on this route, adding that another Turkish airlines may launch flights from Azerbaijan’s Lankaran this winter.

The company noted that regular flights between the two countries were approved by intergovernmental agreements. The relevant agreement between the civil aviation authorities of Azerbaijan and Turkey was signed in November 2014, and its conditions are now met by both parties.

AZAL added that it continues to work closely with Turkish Airlines in conducting flights to Baku, Ganja, and Nakhchivan.

Wizz Air makes a comeback

Moreover, Hungarian budget airline Wizz Air, the largest low-fare, low-cost airline in Central and Eastern Europe, made AZAL aware of its intention to resume flights to Azerbaijan starting from March 2016.

Talks on the resumption Wizz Air flights to Azerbaijan will take place in the near future, noted AZAL.

“The Azerbaijani side has agreed to the implementation of Wizz Air flight from March 2016,” the company reported.

The country had repeatedly appealed to Wizz Air with a proposal to resume flights in the summer and winter of 2015, but received no response, according to AZAL.

Direct flights between Baku and Budapest were conducted starting June 2013 in accordance with a memorandum of cooperation signed by the civil aviation administrations of the two countries. Later Wizz Air indefinitely postponed flights to and from Baku.
