Iran is ready to cooperate with Azerbaijan on the Trans-Eurasian Information Super Highway project, Mahmoud Vaezi told Trend last week.

The Iranian minister of communications and information technology, and the co-chairman of the intergovernmental commission expressed readiness to discuss this issue with Ali Abbasov, Azerbaijani Communications and Information Technologies Minister.

“I believe that at this moment, the countries are interested in connection through various channels and ways. All this is being done in order to ensure that communications between the two countries intensify. We welcome the cooperation in this sphere,” he said.

The Iranian official also noted that Iran is preparing to launch the second phase of large-scale international Europe-Persia Express Gateway project after determining tariffs for traffic transit.

“Work on the project goes at a good pace,” the minister said. “We've got everything ready, and in the near future we will launch the second phase of the EPEG project. Iran made very large investments in this project, and we believe it has great potential. Regarding the tariffs, I cannot say anything about them now, as tariffs are now very variable all over the world.”

The TASIM project with an initial cost of $100 million envisions creating a major transit link from Frankfurt to Hong Kong. The line will connect major centers of data exchange in Europe and Asia together, stretching through China, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Turkey, and Germany. A reserve North transit line will pass through Russia, Ukraine and Poland.

TASIM will be implemented in two stages. The project is expected to come on stream at a cost of $100 million. The length of TASIM will stretch over 11,000 kilometers and its initial network bandwidth will reach 2 Tbit/s.
