Legends of European Games visit Azercell
Azercell Telecom organized very interesting and sincere meeting at its office on July 3. The Sportsmen from National Paralympics Committee who represented Azerbaijan at First European Games and the committee management visited the company.
At the beginning of the meeting held at headquarters of Azercell, shots from the Opening Ceremony of First European Games, highlights of flame bearing by honored sportsman Ilham Zakiyev, his and other sportsmen’s games, awarding ceremonies were screened.
Azercell employees participating at the meeting applauded the guests upright. Mr.Vahid Mursaliyev, the president of company, greeted the guests and congratulated them with the great achievements at European Games.
V.Mursaliyev stated that, 2 days before the end of European Games mysterious victories of our paralympic sportsmen, Ilham Zakiyev, Sabina Abdullayeva and Zakir Muslumov, enabled to finish European Games avidly.
The President of Azercell reminded about 50 teenagers who engage in sport activities at Children’s Paralympics Committee and announced about further support to them by the Company: This means a second chance of those children for life. It is very important for us to support them to display persistence and we believe that, they will be able to raise Azerbaijan flag in many countries”.
Ilham Rahimov, the President of National Paralympics Committee and Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Protection of Population expressed gratitude to Azercell family for such a warm and sincere reception: “I can see that, the excitement which we felt at hall have spread up to here. Even in 2008, Azercell supported the participation of paralympic sportsmen at Pekin Paralympics Games. I hope this cooperation will continue”.
İ. Rahimov noted that, European games have had positive impacts on Paralympics movement in Azerbaijan. For example, for the first time, sport hall have become accessible for the physically disabled. The disabled may join the games as spectators easily. Furthermore, the President of International Paralympics Committee, for the first time ever, presented Honor Award to Ilham Aliyev, The President of Azerbaijan Republic. Deputy Minister stated that, many requests have been received about holding universal Paralympics events in Baku.
Thereupon, sportsmen participating at the meeting responded questions of Azercell employees. Ilham Zakiyev, "Double Paralympic Champion, double World and fivefold European Champion for judo, stated that, he had disguised the information on flamebearing at Opening Ceremony from everyone for three months. After becoming a champion, he asked the President to rise on platform: “Then I told to the ear of President: The Commander-in-chief, the soldier Zakiyev has fulfilled his task. Because, I promised to get gold medal”.
Sabina Abdullayeva, double world champion, three times silver medal winner and silver medal winner at Baku 2015 European Games, told her history about choosing this type of sport.
At the end of the meeting, the sportsmen were presented gifts and flowers. Memorial photo was taken as well.
Zakir Muslumov, the bronze medal winner at Baku 2015 European Games, Natig Gasimov, first Vice-president of National Paralympics Committee and Chairman of Supervisory Board of Children’s Paralympics Committee, Afig Suleymanov, Chief Secretary of National Paralympics Committee, Kamal Mammadov, Executive Director of Children’s Paralympics Committee, Ibrahim Ibrahimov, the chief coach of National Paralympics Committee (judo) also participated at this event.
It is worth to note that, Children’s Paralympics Committee was established for the first time in the world in 2014 in Azerbaijan. The Committee which is supported by Azercell Telecom LLC includes up to 50 children.
