Azerbaijanis prefer portable computers

The market of portable computers continues to grow in Azerbaijan.

From January to June of this year, Azerbaijan registered an 18.3 percent growth in the market,spurred mainly by the purchase of laptops and notebooks, the statistical center Global Stats reported on July 4.

The market share of laptops in the country was 42.7 percent as of July 1, representing a 55.2 percent growth form the previous year.

Meanwhile sales of the stationary personal computers, as known as desktop computers, decreased by 11 percent in the country during the first half of the year.

The Global Stats report stated that at the end of June, the market share of desktop computers in Azerbaijan was 52.36 percent. Compared with the same period last year, the desktop market in the country decreased by 22.9 percent.

Some 4.8 percent of the market is occupied by tablets. The share of this segment of the market shrunk by 3.1 percent over a period of six months, while compared to the same period in 2014, the share of tablet devices grew by 7.2 percent.

The information and communication sector is developing rapidly in Azerbaijan, with more people surfing the Internet via PC, laptops, tablets, and mobile phones. Today, Azerbaijanis prefer portable computers to personal ones.

Over the past five years, the information technology sector of Azerbaijan has increased two fold.

Currently, the internet penetration rate of Azerbaijan stands at 70 percent. The broadband Internet penetration among the population stands at 50 percent.
