Following a high level diplomatic visit of Serbian delegation to Azerbaijan on April 13-15, it appears both countries have a real opportunity to improve on their bilateral economic relations.

Alexander Vucic, the Serbian prime minister made the remarks while summing up his visit to Azerbaijan, Serbia’s national information agency TANJUG reported.

"I think we left a good impression," Vucic told reporters after a two-day visit to Baku, where the Serbian delegation met with representatives of the Azerbaijani government and local companies.

He noted that the sides achieved progress in the issue of participation of Azerbaijani companies in the privatization of Serbian companies, in particular in the petrochemical complex and agro-industrial complexes.

Vucic stressed that Azerbaijani companies are interested in new investments in infrastructure construction in Serbia.

Serbia and Azerbaijan closely cooperate in the implementation of projects in the field of infrastructure construction. The largest of these is the construction of the motorway in Serbia, in which the general contractor is Azerbaijani company AzVirt.

Vucic also expressed his satisfaction with the successful cooperation of Serbia with Azerbaijani companies operating in Serbia and emphasized the desire to strengthen cooperation with the Azerbaijani Azmeko Company.

"We are determined to strengthen our relations, not only politically but also economically," he said, expressing gratitude for Azerbaijan's support toward Serbia's territorial integrity.

Vucic in his Twitter account has notified that Azerbaijani Azmeko Company is interested in petrochemical cooperation with Serbia, adding that representatives of Azmeko will soon pay a visit to Serbia to negotiate potential ways of cooperation in view of strengthening economic relations between the two countries.

Alexander Antic, the minister of energy and mining, being a member of the state delegation visiting Azerbaijan, visited the country's petrochemical facilities and met with the Azmeko Company’s management. He also said Serbia is interested in investing in the petrochemical sector.

Diplomatic relations between Azerbaijan and Serbia were established in August 1997.

The trade turnover between the two countries was $3,836 million in 2014, according to the Azerbaijan State Statistics Committee.

Serbia exports agricultural products, equipment and pumps for the oil and gas industry, as well as furniture and building materials to Azerbaijan.
