In summer, Latvian airline Air Baltic will resume its direct flight Riga-Baku-Riga, said Kaspars Ozolins, State Secretary of the Latvian Transport Ministry.

“The flight will be carried out twice per week from May 20 to September 7,” he said.

The flights from Riga to Baku will be carried out on Wednesdays at 11:45pm, and on Sundays at 9:30pm. The return flights will be carried out on Thursdays at 6:30am and on Mondays at 4:20am.

The flight between the two airlines is carried out based on a codeshare agreement.

A codeshare agreement is an aviation business arrangement where two or more airlines share the same flight. So, each airline publishes and markets the flight under its own airline designator and flight number as part of its published time table/schedule.

This is beneficial for those passengers who want to buy a ticket for a transit flight through Baku or Riga or collect bonuses from one of these airlines, said Ozolins.

He said that demand for the Riga-Baku-Riga flights is seasonal. Its realization in winter will be unprofitable.

“That’s why, for now we do not plan to carry out directs flights between the two countries all the year round. However, the airline is closely monitoring the market and may revise its plans if the demand increases,” he said.
