Number of Azercell subscribers hits 4.6 million

Azercell Telecom with 51% share of the mobile communications market and 99,8% coverage of the country’s population accomplished another success: the number of its subscribers reached 4,6 million people, the company said Nov. 26.

Azercell Telecom is the leading company on the mobile communications market of Azerbaijan with the largest customer base. Since the day of its inception the Company offers its subscribers top quality service and advanced products. That is to say over 3 million Azercell’s subscribers, i.e. 70% of company’s customer base, speak for free after third minute, one million of which are using “Bolge” tariff, while other two millions benefit from the tariffs for youth segments.

As the member of TeliaSonera family, Azercell was the first to launch commercially 4G technologies not only in Azerbaijan, but also in the entire region in 2012. 262 out of total 5 thousand radio-base stations functioning at the end of 2013 served the network of LTE (4G) covering city of Baku and Absheron peninsula. The most precise system for measuring the data speed – “Ookla Net Index” ranked Azercell as the top provider with the fastest speed of Mobile Data in the country. Thus, based on the Ookla research, currently Azercell provides 6,12MB/s of Mobile Internet speed.

For many years Azercell is well known as the largest taxpayer and investor of country’s non-oil sector. Azercell’s total investment over these years into the telecommunication sector of Azerbaijan is over to $1 billion, while the aggregate tax payments to the state budget also exceeds $1 billion.
