Georgian-Azerbaijani-Turkish military co-op in focus

Georgian Defense Minister Irakli Alasania and Chief of Turkish Armed Forces General Staff, Army General Necdet Ozel discussed issues of the bilateral cooperation in Tbilisi.

The regional security was one of the main topics, the Defense Ministry of Georgia reported on October 23.

The Turkish side expressed its readiness to assist Georgia in implementing the basic package of NATO.

Alasania thanked the Turkish side for its support and contribution to the development of the armed forces.

Alasania, also noted the need to deepen Turkish-Azerbaijani-Georgian military cooperation. He said that it is necessary to intensify joint military exercises in this direction.

"We discussed bilateral and trilateral Azerbaijan-Georgia-Turkey cooperation," Alasania said. This applies to joint exercises, joint protection measures during the crisis situations and the development of infrastructure, which connects the three countries."

The defense ministers of Azerbaijan, Turkey and Georgia met in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic (NAR) on August 19 and discussed the military-political situation in the region.

Zakir Hasanov, Ismet Yilmaz and Irakli Alasania also reached an agreement to hold joint military exercises in the future to increase the combat capability of the armed forces of three countries.

An agreement was reached during the meeting to hold meetings in this format twice a year, to organize joint workshops and conferences, to create a trilateral format in military education and cooperation in the military-technical sphere.

The experts' meetings are planned to be organized to examine the promising areas of cooperation.
