Azerbaijan will press ahead with reforms on liberalization of export-import operations, Deputy Chairman of the State Customs Committee (SCC) of Azerbaijan Shahin Baghirov said at a meeting with participants of foreign trade, Trend Agency reported on September 27.

During the meeting, the participants were informed about the new requirements of legislation in the customs field.

Baghirov said legal acts, drafted by SCC since the beginning of application of the new Customs Code [entered into force on January 1, 2012] in Azerbaijan, cover all sectors of economy, including transport, industry and agriculture.

"Since January 2009, when the reforms began, the country has started to apply the 'one window' principle when checking the goods and vehicles passing through the border checkpoints. Meanwhile, the administrative procedures in the field of export-import operations have been further simplified after the application of the Customs Code," he added.

Today, the documents generally required for customs control of import-export operations are the transport documents and a declaration. Thus, the number of documents required for import operations has been reduced from 11, and for export operations - from 8 to just 3. In general, the list of required documents has been reduced from 19 to 6.
