Azerbaijan, Russia discuss ICT capacity

There is a great capacity for expanding cooperation in various fields between Azerbaijan and Russia, including in the field of information and communication technologies and investment.

This was said by Azerbaijan's Communication and High Technologies Minister Ali Abbasov at a meeting with Deputy Minister of Russia's Communication and Mass Media Rashid Ismayilov, the Ministry reports.

Abbasov stressed that the high-level of bilateral relations between the two countries are strengthening year by year.

"This is because these relations have been established on a solid foundation of sincere friendship and good neighborhood," he said.

For his turn, Ismayilov expressed satisfaction with the current level of cooperation between the two countries. He said that as Deputy Minister he would do his best to further strengthen this cooperation in the background of close relations between the presidents of Azerbaijan and Russia.

Speaking about the prospects for the development of Azerbaijani-Russian cooperation, Ismayilov stressed the importance of increasing mutual investment projects.

The sides also discussed other issues of mutual interest in the communications and ICT sphere and exchanged views on new areas of cooperation between Azerbaijan and Russia.

Ismayilov is chairing the 29th session of the Commission for International Cooperation Coordination of the Regional Commonwealth in the field of Communications (RCC), underway in Baku.

Over $257 million were invested in ICT sector and postal services of Azerbaijan in 2013. The country's revenues for the ICT sector and postal services increased by 14 percent in comparison with 2012 and amounted to 1.632.2 billion manats in 2013.
