Azerbaijan, Iran to ink agreement in ICT sector

Azerbaijan and Iran will sign a new agreement soon on cooperation in the field of information and communication technologies (ICT).

The remark was made at a meeting of Iranian Ambassador to Azerbaijan, Mohsen Pak Ayeen with Azerbaijani Minister of Communications and High Technologies Ali Abbasov, Iran's embassy said.

During the meeting, the sides discussed prospects of cooperation between Iran and Azerbaijan in these areas.

Pak Ayeen emphasized the importance of the development of cooperation between companies of the two countries, working in the private sector.

He said an Iranian delegation, consisting of representatives of companies operating in the ICT sector, will visit Baku soon for talks with Azerbaijani companies.

Earlier Abbasov said Azerbaijan and Iran have agreed on all outstanding issues of frequency resources regulation in the border territories.

He said, the regulation of radio-frequency spectrum of TV and radio broadcasting, as well as the transit of international traffic were among the main topics of the negotiations held between the ministries of the two countries during the visit of an Azerbaijani delegation to Tehran in June.

Azerbaijan and Iran have had diplomatic relations since 1918. Iran recognized Azerbaijan's independence in 1991, and diplomatic relations between the two countries were established in 1992.

Data from the State Customs Committee of Azerbaijan shows that trade turnover between the two countries amounted to $281.03 million in 2013, which is 6.13 percent higher than 2012. The figure stood at $263.785 million in 2012.

Iran's trade turnover with Azerbaijan in the first eleven months of 2013stood at $470 million ($448 million exports and $22 million imports), Iran's customs administration's latest report shows.
