Honduras seeking participation in Azerbaijan’s energy sector

Central American country, Honduras is keen to participate in energy projects in energy-rich Azerbaijan.

Honduran Minister of Economic Development, Alden Rivera made the remark during his visit to Baku.

At a meeting with President of Azerbaijan's state energy giant SOCAR Rovnag Abdullayev on July 11, Rivera expressed his country`s interest in being involved in oil and gas projects implemented in Azerbaijan.

Rivera said Honduras was keen to participate in energy projects in Azerbaijan.

He hailed Azerbaijan`s achievements in the energy sector, as well as the country`s regional and global oil and gas projects.

Abdullayev, for his part, provided an insight into the history of oil industry in Azerbaijan.

He referred to the visit of a Honduran delegation led by Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Mireya Agüero de Corrales, to Azerbaijan this May, saying "such visits promote bilateral cooperation between the two countries".

Earlier in the day, a delegation led by Honduran Minister of Economic Development had a meeting at Azerbaijan's Energy Ministry.

Minister Natig Aliyev said Rivera's visit to Baku would contribute to expanding cooperation between the two countries, and noted that there were ample opportunities for mutual investments.

He said Azerbaijani entrepreneurs implemented projects in a number of countries, noting that it was expedient to hold business forums and exhibitions as part of establishing further ties between the two countries` entrepreneurs.

Rivera highlighted the discussions held in terms of expanding bilateral ties as productive and provided an insight into Honduran economy and potential projects.

The Honduran delegation also got acquainted with an exhibition on the socio-economic development in Azerbaijan in the last 10 years.

Furthermore, Azerbaijan's Economy and Industry Minister Shahin Mustafayev received the Honduran delegation.

The sides exchanged views on prospects of cooperation between the two countries.

Referring to the development of political relations, Mustafayev said the visit of the Honduran delegation will contribute to further expansion of cooperation.

The Azerbaijani official also thanked Honduras for recognition of the occupation of Azerbaijan's territories and Khojaly genocide, committed in 1992 by the Armenian armed forces.

Making a presentation about his country, Rivera spoke about the implemented state programs and also potential projects in Honduras. He invited the Azerbaijani businessmen to take part in these projects.
