Azerbaijan increases export of agricultural products

The export volume of vegetables and fruits which is the main base of Azerbaijan's agricultural export has increased by 27.9 percent reaching to $68.9 million.

Agriculture Minister Heydar Asadov made the remark at a Cabinet of Ministers meeting on the results of socioeconomic development in the first half of 2014 and objectives of future.

"The first half of 2014 will be remembered with the adoption of some historical decisions on the development of agriculture and further strengthening of state's support to this field," he said. "By these decisions, a foundation was created for passing into a qualitatively stage in the development of agriculture. All these, in turn, will give the agriculture sector a new image in the near future."

Asadov went on to say that during the first half of 2014, there was a steady increase in the production value of the agricultural production.

"The agricultural production worth 2.3 billion manats was produced in the first half of this year which is 5.8 percent more compared to the same period last year. The crop production amounted to 973 million manat, and livestock production was 1.3 billion manat in January-June," he noted.

"The volumes increased by 10.1 and 3 percent respectively. The growth rates in agriculture were consistent with similar rates in other spheres. The specific share of agricultural production in GDP remained unchanged at 4.4 percent," he said.

Asadov further said that there was a major breakthrough in improving agricultural equipment for farmers.

"In particular, 1928 units of agricultural machinery were purchased and handed over to farmers by "Agrolizing" Open Joint Stock Company during the reported period. They machinery which meet international standards, include 478 combine harvesters produced in Europe, 417 tractors, 1033 trailers and other equipment," he said.

"The renovation of agricultural machinery has led to harvesting more than 90 percent of the area under crops with a minimal loss in the shortest time."
