Azerbaijan seeks Israeli model of cyberspace security

By Nigar Orujova

Azerbaijan plans to follow the Israeli model of cyberspace security strategy as it is based on experience and combined with a unique concept of development, a source in Azerbaijan's telecommunications market told Trend Agency on January 22.

The manager of Electronic Security Center of the Azerbaijan's ICT Ministry will travel to Israel next week to discuss aspects of cooperation in this regard.

The country intends to study Israel's experience in information security and fight against cyber crimes.

The source said that the cooperation in the field of information security is one of the most important areas of cooperation between the two countries.

Israel created a structure "Tehila" to combat cyber threats in 1997, and in 2002 formed a national information security management.

Moreover, a National Cyber Headquarters (NCH), which is responsible for the formation of national security policy in cyberspace, and the development of cooperation between the Israeli and international expert bodies in the field of computer security was established in January 2012.

One of the main goals of Azerbaijan for 2014 is to strengthen the cyber security in the fast-growing ICT sector of the country, which faces with some ninety percent of cyber attacks from abroad.

Azerbaijan fights for the computer security on two levels. One of these levels concerns legal issues, which involves the Justice Ministry, prosecution agencies and other structures, while the second level is technological, which includes operators, and companies providing cyber services, that should use detection systems and improve cyber security.
