TEAS organizes business forum in London

A business forum organized by the European Azerbaijan Society (TEAS) was held in London on November 5.

The forum was held with the support of Azerbaijani Embassy in Great Britain and Azerbaijan Export and Investment Promotion Fund (AZPROMO).

Opening the event, TEAS Business Coordinator Venessa Raine highlighted Azerbaijan's modern infrastructure, the reforms undertaken in recent years, and the consolidation of public-private cooperation in the country.

Raine also talked about TEAS`s activities aimed at developing the relations between Azerbaijan and Great Britain.

Speaking at the event, Azerbaijan`s ambassador to Great Britain Fakhraddin Gurbanov stressed the developments observed in Azerbaijan, noting the rapid development of the non-oil sector and the incoming and domestic investments.

Talking about Azerbaijan's potentials for natural gas export, Gurbanov talked about the TANAP- the project which will facilitate the transference of natural gas from Shah Daniz field to the European market-, emphasizing how it was in the interest of both Azerbaijan and the European countries.

He also gave detailed information about the "Azerbaijan 2020: Outlook for the Future" Development Conception.

Head of Interstate Economic Cooperation Department of the Ministry of Economy and Industry Orkhan Mammadov said that strengthening cooperation with the European Union was one of the main purposes of Azerbaijan's foreign policy.

The chairman of the TEAS Tale Heydarov spoke about the purpose of the event, saying that the forum was aimed at providing information about the business opportunities of both countries, establishing initial contacts between the companies, and exchanging views on specific business projects and cooperation.

He expressed hope for a greater consideration of economic and business relations between Great Britain and Azerbaijan, further development of bilateral relations in all spheres, and the establishment of a basis for planning new project.

British Ambassador on Trade with Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan Charles Hendry informed the forum about the trade relations between the UK and Azerbaijan, noting that the relationship was progressing further.

Hendry also applauded Azerbaijan's young people for choosing to study at British universities.

Praising the work of the forum, MP Javanshir Feyziyev talked about the development of relations between the two countries in various areas, particularly in the economic field.

Head of AZPROMO Rufat Mammadov informed the forum about the activities of his organization, talking about the competitive business and investment environment, and the major projects implemented in Azerbaijan.

Deputy Executive Director of Azerbaijan Investment Company Ilham Aliyev touched on the investment ties between the UK and Azerbaijan in his speech.

Aliyev noted that British investors attached great importance to Azerbaijan, adding that businessmen from both countries were active in mutual investments.

Former U.S. Ambassador to Azerbaijan Matthew Bryza praised Azerbaijan's culture and the dynamic developments in the energy and other sectors in his speech. He expressed confidence that the country's success would continue in the future.

The Forum continued its work with the sessions.

TEAS supports European and Azerbaijani businesses, providing a platform for organizations that wish to strengthen their existing business relationships, and a program of networking opportunities designed to develop new contacts across the regions.

TEAS operates a series of events throughout the year, including: lectures, round-table discussions, trade missions, forums and conferences including the annual TEAS Business Forum, all of which facilitate not only professional information exchange but also inter-cultural exchange.
