Azerbaijan and Pakistan are eager to expand cooperation in the fields of investment, industry, tourism, transport, transit transport, agriculture and food production.

The Azerbaijani Economy Ministry reported that the relevant issues were discussed between Azerbaijani Deputy Economy Minister Sahil Babayev and Pakistan’s Commerce Secretary Mohammad Younus Dagha at the first meeting of a trade cooperation working group on July 28.

The sides discussed the promotion of the Made in Azerbaijan brand in Pakistan and Pakistani side was provided with information about local companies.

Moreover, Azerbaijan Export and Investment Promotion Foundation (AZPROMO) and the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), which envisages the expansion of cooperation between businessmen of the two countries, exchange of information on market research and investment projects, establishment of joint ventures, as well as participation in fairs and business events.

The Islamic Republic of Pakistan is one of the first countries that recognized the independence of Azerbaijan on December 12, 1991. The diplomatic relations between two countries were established on June 9, 1992.

Trade and cooperation has steadily grown between the two nations, with several summits being held on how to improve trade between the two nations.

The trade turnover between Azerbaijan and Pakistan amounted to $17.5 million in January-June 2017, more than $16 million of which accounting for the import of Pakistani products, according to Azerbaijan’s State Customs Committee.
