Gov't assists in promotion of local production

Energy-rich Azerbaijan, which seeks to bolster the economic growth through stimulating and strengthening the export potential of its non-oil sector, continues to take certain measures in this regard.

Economy Minister Shahin Mustafayev said that the country plans to establish an institution of trade representatives, mentioning that creation of such organization in the country is of pivotal importance for the export promotion.

He went on saying that Azerbaijan will create trade missions in Russia, China and the UAE until late 2016, adding that the trade representatives will get the status of members of Azerbaijan’s diplomatic missions in these countries.

Mustafayev also spoke about the measures taken with a view to promote Azerbaijani production in the foreign market.

He said that the ministry has already received first appeals from entrepreneurs regarding the partly repayment of their expenses for the export of production.

The export promotion mechanism envisages that the government will return part of the money spent by entrepreneurs on the organization of export supplies (compensation is provided at a rate of 3-6 percent of the customs value of goods).

The system is not applicable to imported or re-exported products, as well as goods produced in free trade zones, or goods imported to Azerbaijan for transit purposes, as well as in other cases stipulated by the regulations. Moreover, the system is not applicable to customs brokers.

The promotion system will cover such goods as natural honey, dried fruit, persimmons, pomegranates, pastries, canned vegetables, fruits, nuts and hazelnuts, jams, confiture, fruit jellies, marmalades, fruit, nut puree and paste, fruit and vegetable juices, sauces, condiments, mineral water, carbonated water, soft drinks, wine, cognac, brandy, liquor, tufted and lint-free handmade carpets and other goods.

Some 20 types of non-oil production will benefit from the system, while the export of agricultural products is expected to be a locomotive for exports.
