A colorful children's fashion design competition, devoted to the 1st European Games, was held in Baku on July 1.

Around 20 designers participated in the competition. Their collections were worn by young models aged between 5 and 11 years old.

The organizer of the event, Mina Vagif, who also serves as the chairman of the Azerbaijani Volunteers Association, said that the main task of the designers was to reflect the spirit of the European Games in their dresses.

A significant event in the history of Azerbaijani sports, the European Games hosted more than 6,000 athletes competing in 20 sports.

Little boys and girls donning colorful sport attire and clothing reflecting traditional national ornaments and drawings of the pomegranate and Gazelle -- the mascots of Baku 2015 European Games -- happily walked down runway sharing smiles and kisses with the audience.

Famous Azerbaijani fashion designers Fakhriya Khalafova and Gulnara Khalilova, as well as Samira Zeynalova, the head of the Azerbaijan Culture and Arts Studio in Moscow, Konul Azizova, the Azerbaijani model and actress who lives in Turkey and well known dancer Oksana Rasulova were among the jury.

Designers Ilaha Hasanova and Natig Musazade won first place by vote.

The children's fashion show is great opportunity for many boys and girls to expand their creative potential and support their freedom of expression.

Azerbaijani moms today try to follow fashion trends, as clothes for children are not just a fad, but also a means to reflect their personalites and tastes.

Azerbaijan has an ancient dress tradition and the national costume was basically the same in all historical ethnographic zones of the country.

The national women's dresses have elegant silhouettes and are cut to emphasizing flexible waist of Azerbaijani beauties. They are decorated with intricate embroidery and beautiful golden band.

Azerbaijani Men's clothing is also very distinct. They emphasize the masculinity without restricting a man’s rapid movements.
