The First European Games held in Baku will remain in the history of the world sports forever, Kazakhstan’s embassy in Baku said in its congratulatory letter on the occasion of completion of the European Games.

Kazakh Ambassador to Azerbaijan Beibit Isabayev congratulated the Baku 2015 First European Games Organizing Committee led by Azerbaijan’s First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva and the brotherly Azerbaijani nation with the successful holding of the Games.

“By ranking second in the team event with 56 medals, including 21 gold ones, Azerbaijan once again showed the high development level of its economy, sports and physical training to the whole world,” the congratulatory letter read.

"We are confident that Azerbaijan will hold the upcoming major sports events such as the Formula 1 Grand Prix, Islamic Solidarity Games and the 2020 UEFA European Football Championship at a high level as well.”

The European Games kicked off in Baku June 12 and wrapped up on June 28. Baku 2015 First European Games hosted 20 sports – 16 Olympic and four non-Olympic sports.

More than 6,000 athletes from across Europe came to Baku to represent their nations over 17 days of competition. Baku was awarded the games by the European Olympic Committees (EOC) in December 2012.
